Exmouth cycle ace Will Tidball is in action this weekend at the men’s national senior omnium championships being held in Derby on Saturday (February 17).

Will says: The format is a set of races all added together to decide the all-round, or ‘omnium’ champion.

“It’s the type of race that Mark Cavendish excelled at.”

He continued: “With it being in Derby it means that, for the third time in eight days, my father and I will be driving up to the wonderful city of Derby.”

In order to win you have to score the most in a combined score (after qualifying) of all the races- as there are so many points up for grabs in the points race with the last lap being double points it often a nail-biter to the end!

For those keen to watch how Will gets on the 10km Tempo event is off at 3.25pm, the Elimination goes at 5.13pm and the points race – the last one – over a distance of 25km. Will can be seen on a bike with

Summary of the races I’m in: blue highlights and he will be wearing the PHMAS kit (similar to our picture that supports this article).

Will says: “Last year I came eighth so I’m hoping to improve on that score But its not an easy competition for in the field are many current European champions!”

Meanwhile, Will’s sister Rosie is clearly looking to follow in her brothers footsteps for she is also making her way in the cycle world. Last week Rosie attended a presentation at National British cycling awards in Birmingham where she collected prizes for both the Under-12 team and Under-12 British champion. See more at:
