Exmouth Lawn Tennis Club was proud to host the Coleman Cup ladies tennis tournament for a third year, writes Sylvia Riches.

The event was sponsored by Coleman Financial Services and this year, McCarthy and Stone kindly donated a hamper and bottle of champagne

The tennis club was looking at its pristine best with four beautiful grass courts and three hard courts and proved to be the perfect venue for the competition.

What’s more, then weather played its part with wall-to-wall sunshine throughout.

There was not an issue with car parking either with much of that down to Exmouth Cricket Club allowing parking at their club which certainly helped for there were some 32 players, travelling from as far as Bovey Tracey and Lyme Regis, with some also from more local places such as Sidmouth.

The day started with coffee and biscuits in the clubhouse followed by three matches consisting of seven games.

There was a bottle raffle which raised a magnificent £130 for Hospiscare. This was followed by an excellent beautifully set out lunch which included beetroot, brie and walnut salad, quiches and summer berry fruits ..all accompanied by Pimms or fruit juice. During the afternoon the concluding knock out rounds of both the Coleman Cup and the Coleman Plate event for the runners up were played out.

The two finals were avidly watched by over 30 people and both matches were really well contested. Anne Bullman and Amanda Goodison won the cup beating Wendy Smith and Liz Griffiths 6-5 whilst Barbara Robillard and Carol Saterly won the Coleman Plate beating Marlene Maynard and Sarah Peacock .

Despite a busy work schedule John Halliday, Financial Consultant from Coleman Financial Services d made sure that he arrived in good time to view the finals and present the prizes.

Sylvia Jane, Exmouth Tennis Club Chairman, expressed her thanks to Philippa White and fellow members of the Club for their help and assistance in organising the event and preparing the courts, with particular thanks going to Mary Sage who masterminded the superb catering.

We are all looking forward to a follow up tournament next year.
