Exmouth Carnival 2017 – held on Saturday, October 14 – drew big crowds to the town’s streets and raised more than £2,300 for good causes.
The first carnival to be organised by Paul Wollen, he said it wasn’t bad, but ‘could be better’.
He was pleased the reversed carnival route he’d implemented seemed a success.
“A lot of people said it was better, and the majorettes said it was easier for them.”
However he highlighted problems at the roundabout by the Powder Monkey pub, where crowds surged halfway across the road, dangerously near to the floats.
“That was the only fault I had,” said Mr Wollen. “I didn’t have enough marshals to sort that out, but what I’m doing next year is to put a barrier there.”
He’s also asked for younger people to help. “Otherwise this thing ain’t going to work. I was running round like a headless chicken for hours because I was the only person doing it.”
