Group will work with the community and try resolve issues in the town.

New members of Cranbrook Community Forum steering group were selected, approved and appointed at the town’s most recent forum meeting at St Martin’s School.

Ten of the 12 available positions were filled on an historic night for the town.

Chairing the steering group is Paul Smith, with Steve Lawrence as vice-chairman.

Andrea Nicholls was appointed secretary, and monetary matters will be handled by the body’s new treasurer, Nick Partridge.

The leads for planning, utilities, and governance and asset are Alistair Banks, Mark Krzywinski and Kevin Blakey respectively.

The final three leads were chosen as Kevin Jennings for children and young people, Ian Dyer for traffic matters and community safety, and Karen Jennings for community and social events.

Two positions were undecided at the meeting; leads for communications, and business.

Corena Ward, Cranbrook’s community development worker, said: “The sub-groups of Cranbrook Community Forum were decided upon by the steering group during a brainstorming session about issues of most importance to Cranbrook which the group should tackle.

“As the groups are very early in their formation and they are all very different themes, it is difficult to say what each one’s activities will be. This is for the groups to decide themselves over the next few months and on an ongoing basis. The community and social events sub-group already organised a ‘Big Picnic’ event and the planning sub-group has a work meeting scheduled soon to comment on current planning applications.”
