Established in 2014, Cranbrook Community Market is at the Younghayes Centre, 5.30pm-7pm, every other Thursday.

Here’s ten things you may not know about it.

1 The market was launched at the Younghayes Centre in August 2014 by the community group Community Helpers in Cranbrook (CHIC).

2 At the time there were no shops in Cranbrook, and the new market provided a much-needed amenity for new and existing residents.

3 The initial idea was to bring together local suppliers who were already providing a service to the community together with local residents, keen to have a go at running their own market stall.

4 This ethos remains today, and the market is keen to hear from new stallholders.

5 Initially running every Thursday, in September 2015 the market was re-launched as a fortnightly event, run by the stallholders themselves.

6 The re-launched market is designed to complement Cranbrook’s first shop – the Co-op – by offering different products and services, including fresh local meats, sweets and cakes, which have been produced and farmed within a ten-mile radius.

7 Goods and services vary from market to market and season to season, but regular stalls include Jane Clements (handmade chocolates, etc), Kevin Jennings or Andy Furbear (Clarksons’ meat), Jo Bath (Avon cosmetics), Debbie Hoskins (handmade cards), Sue Turner (Forever Living health products), Hollies Bakery (cupcakes), Trow Farm Fudge, charity stalls and a tuck box run by the Guides.

8 The Cranbrook Herald has a regular monthly reader drop-in at the market, offering free teas, coffees and other goodies.
And while you enjoy your free cuppa, there’s a chance for you to give us your news and views about Cranbrook.

9 The market is held every other Thursday, 5.30pm to 7pm at the Younghayes Centre. The next date is this Thursday (March 23), followed by April 6, April 20, May 4, May 18 and June 1, 15 and 29.

10 For more details and to book a stall, email Jane Clements on jane.e.clements@gmail.com, call 01404 822181 or visit Cranbrook Market on Facebook.
