The past weekend was a big one at Woodbury Park Golf Club with the playing of the Club Championships for both the ladies and the men, writes John Bridgman.

The much coveted trophies on offer are always the Mansell Trophy and Birchmore Cup, both of which are won via scratch competitions.

As ever the gentleman, I will start with the ladies and it was Kate Blake (9) who took the honours with her score of 189, and she also won the Mansell Trophy..

Second place went to Ellen Norton (14) on 190 and third place went to Sara Beaven (12) on 191.

For the men, the Mansell Trophy was won by Thomas Woodhouse (-1), who scored 148. Peter Lawrence (-3), was second on 153 and James Delve (2) took third spot with 157.

For those unfortunates who found the going tough, remember there will always be another day to strut your stuff, eh!

Monday was the seniors’ roll-up and they played a three-ball ‘Ducks and Drakes’ with more points to score on holes approached over water.

Bill Mason was at it again after last week’s win. Nobody had a camera handy, so handsome Bill was miffed, to say the least!

His partners were Andrzej Sobczak and Dave Gilling and the team took the honours with a score of 92.

Second, with a score of 89, were John Man, Russel Lee and Steve Robb. Third were Ian Birch, Tim Rufus and Don Johns on 86 points.

Well, another week has flashed by, no lightning though, so we must be grateful for something eh!
