Withy U13s so impressive in barn-storming win over North Petherton

Withycombe U13s continued their impressive start to the season with a well-deserved and dominant display that saw them beat visiting North Petherton 50-10, writes Mark Long.
This season has been a huge step up for the Withy boys with them playing on virtually a full size pitch this year.
With North Petherton being new opponents, this was always going to be a good test for Withy – and how the team delivered!
Right from the start it became apparent that Withy could, and indeed would, dominate the forwards play, especially the scrums. This led to a solid base for the backs to use the wide open spaces of Raleigh Park.
Josh Coles and Jamie Thompson opened the scoring, before the visitors got one back and then Withy lost Coles for the rest of game with an injury.
Both these events had the effect of galvanising the home team to achieve greater things. The ball was now being passed around freely with plenty of eager runners both with ball and in support, leading to the Withy boys crossing the whitewash at regular intervals. Scores for new players Adam Watts and Aidinn Alijaj were greeted with enthusiastic cheers. North Petherton continued to attack and keep a good shape only to find their efforts thwarted by strong and dogged tackling. However, one loose scrum from Withy saw the Pethy scrum half scamper over for their second score. It proved to be only a consolation, however, as the damage had already been done, and as referee Mike Richards blew for time the home crowd could celebrate a fantastic victory. This Withy team continues to improve game on game and they have now played four matches in the new campaign, winning two, drawing one and losing just the one.
