In contrast to the week before, Exmouth 2nd XV had their work cut out to contain a high-flying Okehampton outfit.

With a couple of players promoted to the Cockles 1st XV, and a couple of unavailabilities, it fell to the bare squad to battle the elements on the edge of Dartmoor.

In what were certainly ‘less than ideal’ conditions, it was speedster Harvey Ridgeway who scored first, going on to cross the home whitewash after a kick ahead expertly executed by Harry Ottaway. The only other score of the first half was a home try and so half-time arrived with the score 5-5.

In what was a highly competitive game that the Cockles seemed to dominate, simple errors and turnover ball restricted scoring opportunities.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Okehampton scored a converted try to lead 12-5, but the Cockles dug deep and worked hard to get field position, and, after being camped on the Okehampton line, finally went driving over through with Dan Armstrong scoring the try, one that Rich Cadywould converted to tie the game at 12-12. The Cockles will scratch their heads on how they missed their chance to take a win. Next up is a Saturday (September 29) home meeting with Ivybridge 2nds.
