Margaret Powell was victorious in a close fought ladies December stableford competition at East Devon Golf Club last week, writes Helen Chivers.

In what was a close contest, she claimed victory on countback from Lorna Nichols, Judy Murray and Joy Wisdom as they topped the field of 67 players.

Powell, Nichols, Murray and Wisdom shot one under par rounds of 37 points, with Silver player Powell taking the overall honours on the day with her better back nine.

Margaret, Judy and Joy led the way in Silver Division by one shot, with Elaine Bright claiming fourth place on level par 36 points. Marilyn Hobbs, Jill Miller and Ali Miller were one shot further back on 35 points, with Marilyn taking fifth place on countback.

Lorna topped Bronze Division by two shots from Heather Coles, who shot a one over par round of 35 points. Annie Dent, Barbara Middleditch and Gill Laver were a shot further back on 34 points, with another countback decision seeing Annie take third place, Barbara fourth and Gill fifth.
