Phear Park bowlers celebrated the festive season with their annual presentation at the Police Social Club, writes Chris Cleaver.

In a chance to look back on the 2017 outdoor season, club president Margo Allen presented the winners with their trophies.

John Robins and David Evans enjoyed stellar years. Evans won the Garbutt Knot and the Championship, whilst Robins was victorious in three competitions, taking home the Handicap and both the men’s and mixed pairs trophies.

Mike Killoran was declared the most improved player, and David Dowden received the Alex Atkins Trophy.

This is presented to a member who has provided outstanding service to the club. This is the second time David has received the award, which fully demonstrates his selfless contribution.

After a sumptuous buffet came the main event: skittles! The men took on the women and, after a closely fought contest, the men emerged the victors. Many thanks to Margo and her team for organising the presentation evening.

As we come to the winter solstice, ‘sunny’ afternoons on the green seem a distance away. Nevertheless, bowlers should be heartened by the fact that the 2018 outdoor season is less than four months away!

Everyone at Phear Park wishes Journal sport readers a happy festive season.
