Clyst St George 2nd XI came up against a strong Bradninch 2nds, with the visiting side able to field an eleven that included three players that have played Premier Division cricket this season.

Batting first, the Bohea Field men scored 177-8, thanks in the main to a superb half century from George O’Dwyer and fine supporting knocks of 45 from fellow opener Simon Burrell and number four bat Gareth Hall.

Bradninch got off to a decent start and were on 46 when Ian Edworthy made the breakthrough thanks to a smart stumping by Nick Dubuisson.

Edworthy struck twice more, both with successful leg before decisions, to leave the visiting side 57-3.

However, two of the players with Premier Division experience then put bat to ball with great effect as Will Grieg hit 31 and Charlie Sheen, who was last year with Devon champions Bovey Tracey, hit a nine ball 32 and Bradninch eventually won by three wickets with nine overs to spare.

For the home bowling effort, Edworthy’s figures were 3-33 from eight overs and Gareth Hall bagged a brace at a cost of 42 runs from five overs.

The defeat means Clyst St George now have little hope of a top three finish and with that promotion.
