Archant

A strong performance from Terry Escott, Rob Gerrard, Paul Griffin and skip Leighton Burston against a Devon Presidents four at Cricket Field Lane produced a terrific 26-10 success, writes David Roberts.

A fantastic start saw the Budleigh team take an 11-0 advantage after eight ends and they followed this up with two consecutive five shot ends to consolidate the victory.

Tony Lim, David Evans, Brian Evans and Peter Burch lost out 21-9, struggling to get a foothold in the game, but it was a most enjoyable afternoon for all concerned.

These are special occasions when the President’s teams come to town and a big thank you to captain Peter Burch and Lilian Grainger for the afternoon’s hospitality.

In other events at the club, an away mixed friendly with Honiton saw Budleigh bowlers return home minus any spoils with the home team winning overall by 50 shots to 21.

In the Coast Wealth Management Evening League, the Exonia Eagles had a convincing 53-19 win over the Budleigh Hawks, thereby banking all six points.

In the Tuesday Morning Triples League there were wins for Tony Lim, David Evans and Celia Mangeng 23-12 and, in a close encounter, Mike Clark, Margaret Avery and Lilian Grainger drew their match with Di Dixon, Derek Stanley and Gerry Roberts, 16-all.

This league is a very popular Tuesday morning event with five teams of triples competing against each other and after six matches in the season it is Team Willow who are in top spot.

The week ahead is a quieter one for the club. The men take on Maderia in the Over-60s League, the Maderia Robins play the Budleigh Buzzards in the Coast Wealth Management Evening League and the club members look forward to their Christmas night out which takes them to the East Devon Golf Club.
