Archant

Honiton colts travelled to Exmouth where they drew 10-10 with what was a strong home side, writes Karin Smit.

Honiton got off to a great start and, when they were awarded a penalty for off-side, Dom Lovesly fired the ball between the posts.

The game was not without problems, though, and the referee had to have several discussions with both set of forwards in what became a ‘niggley’ first half that was evenly contested.

Exmouth scored the only try of the half just before the break and it was the home side who led 5-3 at the interval.

A second home try early in the second half gave the hosts a 10-3 advantage and the Honiton cause was not helped by a yellow card picked up by Sam Platten.

However, they dug deep and it was no more than they deserved when Callum Budge crashed over after 65 minutes. Lovely crucially converted to bring the scores level at 10-10. That set up a frenetic last five minutes during which time both sides pressed for a winning score, but it was not forthcoming and honours ended even.
