Archant

Jayden Gore scored twice, but ended on the losing side as Budleigh Salterton Under-16s were beaten 3-2 in an Exeter and District Youth League game at Exeter-based Central, writes SpursTom.

Both sides went for goals from the kick-off, but the only first-half effort to find the back of the net was a home penalty was scored in the 11th minute.

I must confess to being surprised when the referee pointed to the spot after both a home player and Budleigh goalkeeper hit then floor from an aerial challenge.

A truly brilliant fingertip save by Ieuan Brockway in the closing minutes of the half prevented the Robins trooping off two down at the break!

A double strike in as many second-half minutes by Jaydon Gore turned the game on its head to see Budleigh lead 2-1.

In an end-to-end contest there were always going to be further goals and they were indeed scored but, sadly for the Robins, by the home side, who scored the winning goal in the closing minutes.

The defeat brought to an end a disappointing October, during which time the young Robins banked just a single point from three outings.
