Archant

The first event in the World Amateur FootGolf Association (WAFGA) Southwest Winter Pairs series was launched at Lympstone last week.

Taking the form of a 27-hole event, after the front nine holes had been completed it was Team Lash, comprising of Chris Hopton and Dan James, who held a narrow three-shot advantage over Team Tucklow (Rob Mucklow and Matt Tucker) going into the better ball round, with Matt Capel and Chris Woodward in pursuit and holding third position.

The second round, which was played under the better-ball format, saw Mucklow and Tucker applying the pressure and closing the gap to two shots with the foursomes to finish the 27 holes.

That last round was nip and tuck until the third when a birdie shot by Tucker cut the lead to a single shot, leaving all to play for!

However, Hopton’s tee shot on the fourth was sunk for a hole-in-one and the chase was over as Mucklow and Tucker got a par and started chasing shots, leaving the door open for James and Hopton to secure the win and sit on top going into the festive break.

The next event is set to take place on January 11 with an 11am start. With the three best scores counting towards the ultimate one-two-three in the competition, there’s clearly a long way to go!

Well done to all the players and, from all at the FootGolf, here’s to everyone enjoying the best of festive celebrations.
