Exmouth Town shared the spoils with Callington Town in a South West Peninsula League Premier Division meeting with Callington that saw three red cards issued, writes John Dibsdall.

Town bossed proceedings in the first half and deservedly went ahead midway through the half.

A fine passing move culminated in Green firing home from the edge of the penalty area. Town had two penalty shouts turned away, High brought a decent save out of the visiting custodian who was constantly in the action as Town forced a series of corners.

The second half started in a similar vein with Scott Merritt and Ben Steer having efforts narrowly miss the target. Town were stunned when Callington equalised on 55 minutes, a driven corner being headed home at the near post.

The goal gave the visitors added confidence and Town cleared another corner off the line and they should have scored when arguably their best player missed an open goal. Town also created chances and Sam Rawlings and Steer both had shots saved.

In what had been a keenly contested match from two relatively young sides, Town, fielding seven players aged under 20, an incident five minutes from the end was completely out of character.

A Callington player reacted far too strongly to a robust challenge from Dave Rowe and was eventually shown a straight red card.

The delay was due to the officials having to sort out the melee that followed the incident with High and another Callington player, rightly or wrongly, also receiving red cards with Rowe being shown a yellow for the initial challenge.

For the remainder of the game, Callington were happy to defend in depth and secure the point their second half performance deserved.

On Saturday (December 9), Town are in action in Cornwall with a visit to Sticker.
