Exmouth Town crashed out of the F.A Cup against Shaftesbury last night, beaten 2-1 after extra-time by Wessex League Premier Division Shaftesbury.

In a contest that was every bit as close as Saturday’s 0-0 draw in Dorset, it was Town who broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Lee Phillips scored.

The game was one of few chances and it was the visitors who scored the only goal of the second half to send the tie into extra-time.

Alas, for a decent Southern Road turnout of 1755, a defensive error in the first half o extra-time saw the Dorset side scored the games third, and final goal to seal a 2-1 success, a £1,500 pay day and a visit to Tavistock on Saturday week (August 19) in the next round.

Exmouth Town Reserves were also in action last night and they shared four goals with hosts Cullompton Rangers.

Goals from Schlaefli and Nott saw Town into a 2-0 half-time lead, but the home side struck twice in the second half to leave honours even at the end of a thrilling contest.
