Exmouth Karate Academy ends the year with success at their latest grading, writes Richard Wellington.

Students attended a training session and grading with chief instructor of the KUGB Sensei Andy Sherry, 9th Dan, at Tiverton College with other Shotokan Karate Clubs from around the South West.

Having prepared over the last six months, the two adults and five junior members all trained hard then demonstrated their skills in front of a panel of high grade karate instructors.

This consisted of basic techniques (kihon), a set sequence of moves (kata) and controlled fighting against an opponent (kumite).

All the Exmouth students showed a high level of karate skills and all achieved full grades.

In the adult section Tim’s consistent training paid off gaining him a purple belt (5 kyu) and Jamie passed his green belt (6 kyu).

Juniors were also successful with Oscar passing his green belt (6 kyu), George, Sam and Jake all performed really well and gained their red belts (8 kyu) and Oliver graded for the first time achieving orange belt (9 kyu).

Exmouth Sensei’s Kevin, Paul and Richard are very proud of the students who are a credit to the club for their determination, spirit and commitment to karate.

Club nights are on Wednesday and Friday at the Cranford Sports Club and new members are always welcome.

Om May 19, 2018, Exmouth Karate Academy will be hosting the ‘Exmouth Cup’ an open event for all local clubs to come and compete against each other.
