Exmouth Harrier Ryan Snell third at Bridgwater Half Marathon

PUBLISHED: 09:28 07 September 2018 | UPDATED: 09:28 07 September 2018

Cooler conditions were welcomed at the Bridgwater Half Marathon on Sunday enabling Exmouth Harrier Ryan Snell to run a personal best of 1:14:36 and gain third position, writes Cathy Newman.

Ryan has been steadily decreasing his marathon time and his half marathon best from 2016 was ready for revision.

Hannah Bown, running in the women’s race, was also third overall with her time of 90:37.

Kelly Thomas was an age group winner in 1:40.09 while Dave Stone was fifth in his age group in 1:25.12 and Nathan Sheehy finished seventh in his age group in 1:27.23. The race, supporting Cancer Research, follows quiet Somerset country lanes near the town of Bridgwater.

On the edge of Dartmoor, the Lustleigh 10k run is renowned as one of the most challenging multi-terrain courses in the local running calendar. The course takes competitors over hilly lanes, down muddy tracks, through beautiful woodland, along the River Bovey before dropping them back into the village of Lustleigh at the village show field to be cheered to the finish line by a horde of supporters.

Exmouth Harriers Rob Ellis and Richard Bishop took on the challenge finishing 4th and 63rd respectively, their times of 37:59 and 51:46 reflecting the toughness of the course.

Also in Devon, Des White won the V60 at the Dartmouth Regatta in 38:14 a remarkable 34 years after running the same race in 29:27.

This is a 5.1-mile race climbing up out of Dartmouth following rural roads and then returning steeply downhill to the harbour where the regatta crowds are gathered.
