Exmouth cyclist Will Tidball is seeking sponsorship to help him on his way to the next Olympics, set for Tokyo, Japan in 2018.

The teenager, who turns 18 in April, won his first senior medal in the final month of 2017, racing to a bronze medal at the senior national Madison championships.

During 2018, Will is scheduled to race the European/World Track Championships, World Road Championships, Paris Rouxbaix junior, Gent Wevelgem as well as national senior races such as the junior tour of Wales that take place in August.

It’s also a busy year off the track for the youngster as he continues his A-level studies – and saving for his first car!

One area in which Will is particularly keen to get help with is transport. His father David says: “Pursuing his ultimate ambition of a berth in the team at the Olympics has a serious cost element to it. The annual costing for Will, purely in terms of his sport, is between £8,000 and £15,000, depending on various factors.

“Indeed, if he were to go on and participate in the Tokyo Olympics, it is a fact that some £300,000 will have been invested in him since he began life in the sport.”

Dad David continues: “One area which would really help is a sponsored vehicle or some form of sponsorships with fuel, which is a big part of the expenses ‘add up’.”

One idea the pair have come up with is to launch a crowdfunding appeal to assist with the purchase of a time trial bike.

David says: “We are all doing everything we can to raise funds to give Will every chance of reaching his ultimate goal. He is putting a great deal into this in terms of disciplined training – and combining that with studies - and I am determined he shall get as much support as he needs. Hopefully, someone out there will see him as a young lad who deserves backing and will get in touch.”

David Tidball can be contacted on 07811 110611.
