East Devon Golf Club has been successful in regaining the Exe League title following the final match of the season held at Woodbury Park on the final Sunday of August, writes Ray Dawson.

Four local clubs compete annually for the trophy, East Devon together with Exeter, Tiverton and Woodbury Park, with each club hosting a stableford round throughout the summer.

Each club is represented by six pairs with three playing foursomes and the other three playing better-ball. League points are accumulated based on their position on the day.

The results after three rounds left East Devon trailing the defending champions Tiverton by four league points going into the final round.

The weather conditions on the day were challenging with the usual bank holiday rain and play was delayed by 90 minutes to allow the worst of the weather to pass through.

The strong performance from the six pairs of East Devon posted a combined stableford score of 214 points, beating the runners-up on the day, Exeter.

They, in turn, were nine shots ahead of Woodbury Park and with Tiverton slipping into last place a further eight shots behind, the overall league victory was achieved by East Devon.

This is their fourth outright win in the competition since its inception seven years ago.

Final League table

East Devon 821 33

Tiverton 811 31

Exeter 784 26

Woodbury Park 782 22
