Brixington Blues Under-13s came out on top in what was a very close encounter between themselves and Alphington.

Both teams had several chances during the first half, but with Blues Keeper Ben Jeffery and his Alphington Youth counterpart both in fine form, it looked like the half would finish goalless until Blues midfielder Thomas Dean broke the deadlock with a powerfully struck half-volley five minutes before the break.

The one goal advantage really settled Blues down, they started to play some really good football in the second half and created several good chances.

They doubled the lead 15 minutes into the second half with a powerful header by Luke Ewing from a Dean free-kick.

Alphington did manage to pull a goal back, but Blues stayed calm and defended really well to see out the game and pick up all three points against a very good side.

Every one of the Blues team worked their socks off and contributed towards a great win.

Special mentions for second half Blues Keeper Max Neilson, who made a superb reflex save from a deflected Alphington shot a minute before full time to ensure his side banked all three points.

The Blues’ Player of the Week award went to Bobby Pond for a fine composed performance at the heart of the Blues defence.
