Twenty-six players represented the Academy in all age groups at the week-long tournament in Ivybridge.

Josie Culliford claimed titles in the 18 and under (18U) girls’ singles and doubles along with a creditable third place in the mixed doubles.

Ben Johnson won the 14U boys’ doubles with partner Zac Brown and then teamed up with his sister Jessica Johnson to take the 14U mixed doubles title. Ben also played well to finish third in the 16U and 18U boys’ singles aged just 13. Jess made it to multiple finals winning the 14U girls’ doubles with partner Darcie Morton and coming runner-up in the 12U and 14U girls’ singles.

There was also further success for Zac Brown winning the 14U boys’ title by beating EDTA’s Alfie Woodger in the semi-final and then Lucas Urquiza in the final. Zac was also third in the 14U mixed doubles with Exmouth teammate Maddie Schuchter.

Connor McCann reached the semi-finals of the 12U boys’ competition, but had to retire injured. Kirsty Robinson and Ollie Roper were knocked out of the main draws but went into the consolation draws with Kirsty winning the girls’ 14U and Ollie runner-up in the boys’ 12U.

There were six Exmouth boys in the 9U boys’ singles draw. Ryan McCann came out on top with teammate Marcus Robinson finishing third. Ryan then went on to finish third in the 10U boys’ singles. Isabel Marks won the girls’ 9U title after a very close semi-final against teammate Evie Fitzhenry, who went on to finish third. Rounding off the week, Maya Ichim was third in the girls’ 10U tournament and Alex Roper claimed the 8U boys’ trophy.

Many thanks must be recorded to Liam Storey and Ollie Sharpe for their coaching support on multiple days at the championships and to all the Exmouth Tennis and Fitness Centre coaches whose coaching helps make these successes possible.

Thanks also to the parents for providing multiple lifts to the venue, and for their continual support.
