East Budleigh Reserves’ five-star show to see off Pinhoe

East Budleigh Reserves ran out comfortable 5-1 winners against Pinhoe last Saturday with a brace from Kai Guise helping them seal the points, writes Mark Auton.

Despite the score line, Budleigh were rescued on a number of occasions by keeper Drew Shorrock, who had a fine game between the sticks.

Budleigh were ahead five minutes in. Ben Wilks won the ball in the centre of the field before feeding the run of Guise, who neatly slotted the ball into the net.

Number two arrived after 17 minutes, with Wilks drilling the ball home after Dan Atkinson and Guise had combined well.

Budleigh then took their foot off the pedal and were thankful for a goal line clearance from Kev Hockings.

Eight minutes before the break the away side did score, but handed the initiative back to Budleigh a minute later; Guise played the ball across goal and it was a Pinhoe player that applied the final touch.

In a busy first half, Mark Bown added his name to the score sheet, striking a free-kick from just inside his own half, the ball sailed directly over the keeper and into the net to make it 4-1 at the break.

The second half began with Atkinson stinging the palms of the visiting keeper, whilst Guise was unlucky to hit the upright. At the other end, Hockings again cleared off the line.

The fifth and final goal was converted with aplomb by Guise when set up by Atkinson. Hockings received the Man of the Match award, just edging out Guise.

This Saturday (October 14) Budleigh are at Sandford for their league fixture (kick-off 3pm).
