Lympstone Under-15s were 1-0 winners when they entertained West Exe Youth in the quarter-finals of the Exeter and District Youth League Plate competition.

The home side made a good start and strikers Finn Doyle and Matt Miller linked up for Matt Miller to strike a powerful shot that the West Exe goalkeeper saved well.

With Jack Mckie and Jory Salter in the midfield, Lympstone had most of the early possession and it wasn’t long before Billy Phillips’ penetrating runs on the right wing sent a ball into the six-yard box for Liam McManus to come close.

From the resulting clearance George Harding crossed the ball straight back into the danger zone for Finn Doyle to make a brave leap against the West Exe keeper and head the ball home to send the home side into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The second half saw West Exe throw players forward to attempt a breakthrough, but some fantastic defending led by captain Sam Phillips, Scott Simpson Curry and George Harding kept the West Exe attack outside the penalty area with the odd long-range effort never troubling keeper Ryan Bowyer.

Lympstone still threatened on the break with Billy Phillips coming close to doubling the score, but the one goal was enough to see Lympstone through to the semi-final.
