Double delight for Steve Coles in Honiton indoor bowls finals

In the Honiton club competitions there were winners and finalists who all picked up certificates and money prizes, writes Julie Grant.
In the singles events, Steve Coles won twice, lifting the Gigg singles and the Pipe Open. In these two competitions, the runners-up were Peter Barradell and Trevor Pipe.
In the ladies’ championship there was success for Yvonne Rayner, while the Harris Trophy was won by Gail Hawke. The runners-up in those two competitions were Shirley Hiscocks and Margaret Bright.
The Heard two wood singles was won by Yvonne Williams with Myra Singleton the runner-up.
Mike Dart took the Nex Trophy, defeating Peter Barradell and, in the ladies’ pairs there was success for Yvonne Williams and Rita Barwick with the runners-up being Di Hawkins and Shirley Hiscocks.
In the men’s pairs, Peter Barradell and Mike Dart won with Richard Bland and Gareth Mettam being the beaten finalists.
The mixed pairs was won by Di Hawkins and Ken Clarke with Alan Fuller and Rita Barwickm the runners-up and the Ritchie Trophy (Australian pairs) saw success for Barrie Singleton and Steve Coles with the beaten finalists being Bill Nicholls and Terry House.
The Westbrook Two wood pairs was won by Di Hawkins and Terry House, defeating Graeme Richards and Heather Chambers.
The Captain’s Cup, a triples event, was captured by Bob Mackintosh, Steve Howell and Terry House with the beaten finalists being Richard Bland, Steve Coles and Ian Veitch.
The annual Silver Jubilee trophy was won by Ann Hillyear, Lindsey Howell, Tony Tooley and Steve Howell.
In other club action, the final men’s triples friendly of the indoor season saw Honiton beaten 73-69 by Sidmouth. This match saw a fine win of 22-10 for the trio of Mike Critchley, Steve Howell and Barry Randall 22-10.
The outdoor season has started except the rain has delayed use of the green for a period! Last, but certainly not least, the club congratulates Hannah Morfey on gaining her Bowls Devon county badge this season.
