Comets win high-scoring meeting with Cougars

Comets emerged as 62-41 winners when they met Cougars in an Exmouth Netball League match.

Comets welcomed back Gill Hall from injury and began the match very positively, scoring 19 goals to Cougars’ nine in the first quarter. However, after such a slick start it was clear that the effects of the Christmas break and festivities began to show!

The young Cougars team settled into the game and made life much harder for the Comets, scoring 12 goals to Comets’ 14 in the second quarter.

Isla Smith and Charlotte Cross, shooting for Cougars, were well supplied with ball and made the most of their chances.

In the third quarter, Comets were still unsettled, with a number of passes going astray due to misunderstandings rather than poor play. Once again, Cougars kept Comets on their toes, scoring 11 goals to Comets’ 12.

It proved to be a much better start to the fourth and final quarter for Comets. A mixture of strong defending and accuracy in the shooting circle coupled with good anticipation from the centre court trio enabled them to put on 17 goals to Cougars’ 9 for Comets to ultimately seal their 62-41 success.

The Player of the Match awards went to Annabel Russell for Comets and Sarah McAree for Cougars.
