Archant

Exmouth Rugby Club turned out in good numbers for the annual Boxing Day Imperial Ground meeting.

The 2017 Boxing Day offering was billed as the Exmouth Fun Park’s ‘farewell swan song’ – and the game certainly did not disappoint!

The contest saw Chris Wright’s Fun Park XV taking on a Cockles’ Father and Sons XV and it was the former who took the match honours to the tune of a 21-12 score line.

Sixty-four players took part in the match and amongst them was the returning Andrew ‘Kiwi’ Powell, back to play alongside his ‘Dad’ Jon Stone whilst representing his former employer!

Indeed, the Father and Sons XV had no fewer than 10 sets of ‘dads and lads’ on parade, making it a wonderful family occasion.

Exmouth RFC’s Chris Wright spoke after the match, saying: “I would like to place on record massive thanks to all that turned out for the game. I’d particularly like to thank those who represented the Fun Park and who have worked for me over the years. Too many staff to count, but it is the end [sadly] of an era. Suffice to say that, for the Fun Park, it was the first victory against any form of opposition for many a year!”
