Budleigh indoor bowlers sign off with double success

Archant

The Indoor season for the Budleigh Bowlers has without a doubt been a successful one in the playing of club friendlies with many wins and the last week of the Indoor season was no exception, writes David Roberts.

In a home match against Chardstock, Budleigh were 33-23 winners with the rink of Ann Vincent, Mike Clark, Joan Cowing and skip John Dill taking control from the start to eventually run out 18-8 winners, whilst, in a closer affair, Margaret Avery, Derek Stanley, Dick Mitchell and Mo Bond took the lead going into the last two ends only for their opponents to score on the last two ends to draw 15-15.

Against a Masonic team made up of players from Plymouth, Torquay and Exmouth, there were wins on opposite rinks for both teams, but the Budleigh players secured an overall 35 shot to 32 success. Ann Vincent, Stephen Lacey, Tony Lim and skip Joan Shaw dominated their game, leading from the start to win 21-10. Marion Lacey, Mike Shaw, Lilian Grainger and Tony Hanson were favourites at the halfway stage, but fell away in the second half with their opponents registering fifteen bowls to five to win 22-14.

Nevertheless, this was a good overall win against a strong Masonic side.

A big thank you must go to the indoor committee members for all their hard work over the season as the club now looks forward to the opening of the outdoor green, scheduled for Saturday, April 21.
