Brixington Blues U13s made a fine start to the cup campaign with a 7-2 win at home to North Tawton.

Blues began well and took a 20th minute lead when Ethan Hawes was tripped in the area and Tom Dean drilled home the resultant penalty.

The visitors hit back almost immediately with a neat finish and that’s how the game stayed through to the interval.

Early in the second half, Sammy Sidgwick fired Blues back into the lead, but again the visiting response was swift – and clinical. However, Blues took the lead for the third time when a Dean free-kick was turned home by Callum Smith.

Minutes later it was 4-2 with Dean rifling the ball home and Blues soon held a three-goal lead when Hawes scored.

Further goals came from Luke Ewing, and a second from Hawes in the dying moments rounded off a superb all-round performance from Blues.

Callum Smith bagged the man of the match award for a fine captain’s display in central midfield, although it was a great team performance throughout on what was a very wet day!
