The opening of Cranbrook’s new play area has been postponed.

Northwood Acres – which was due to open on Saturday, November 18 – has been put on hold for anything up to three weeks.

The postponement – due to safety concerns and poor ground conditions – was announced on Thursday, November 16 by East Devon District Council (EDDC).

“We’re sorry to advise that the opening of Northwood play area has been postponed and won’t take place on November 18,” said an EDDC spokesperson.

“Due to safety concerns and poor ground conditions following heavy rain, the play area opening will be delayed by up to three weeks. This also means that outstanding landscaping work can be completed safely.”

The Northwood Acres play area, which had its design chosen by local children, was due be opened by Cllr Andrew Moulding, EDDC’s chairman.

Youngsters at Cranbrook Education Campus and St Martin’s Primary School had three designs to choose from.

They voted for the one pitched by Proludic, which includes a spinning bowl, climbing wall and a trampoline that is set into the ground.

Of the 435 children aged five to 11 who voted at two special assemblies in the schools, 81 per cent chose the winning design.
