Co-cars – the hire-by-the-hour car club, with a vehicle based at Cranbrook’s Younghayes Centre – is offering the town’s residents £15 driver’s credit to the next 50 households who sign up.

Co-cars offers its cars for hire to members, by the hour, with pick-up and return to its parking bays. Members can book 24/7 online or via a smartphone, and are given a Smart card to open the car, type in a PIN number and go.

New members are given a free training session on the ‘in-car’ computer and how the system works.

Recent club members include Cranbrook’s Phil Nevard.

“Having a second car to use means that we don’t have to own two cars,” he says. “This is good for our finances and good for the environment. Co-cars gives us the flexibility we need to manage
our transport needs.”

After paying a £25 household membership (two adults), each Co-car hire costs from just £3.75 per hour or from £25 for a 24-hour period plus 15p per mile.

Fuel, insurance, tax, maintenance and emergency cover are all included.

Members can book the car for periods ranging from half an hour to whole days.
